From Gernika to Lezama Viajes Camino de Santiago

Today we continue through mountainous terrain in which the slopes will continue to be frequent. However, the stage is short and grateful from the exit of Gernika, so there are many pilgrims who even choose to continue walking to Bilbao, instead of staying in Lezama, totaling a total of 31.6 km.

We leave Gernika with the reference of reaching the hermitage of Santa Lucía and, heading towards Lezama, we continue along an asphalted road until we find a dirt track on the left hand side with an ascending slope.

The Alto de Morga will be our next milestone. To reach it, we will have to border the mountains of Billakaio and Arteagagana. Don’t worry, the route is perfectly signposted. From the Alto de Morga we will head towards the hermitage of San Esteban, from which we will continue ascending along the BI-4137 road. After seeing the sign indicating the detour to the Eskerika hostel, we will reach the Alto de Aretxabalagana. From the top we will continue downhill, alternating tracks, roads and beautiful forest trails, until we reach Goikolexea.

From Goikolexea we continue to the next village: Larrabezu. From Larrabezu, the path is now a straight road and follows the road until it reaches Lezama.

This stage borders the Urdaibai Reserve to reach Lezama, so the natural landscapes that you will cross as soon as you leave Gernika will be spectacular.
