Stage 13. Alcántara – Grimaldo (20 km)

Information

Today we will face a short stage with slightly more positive elevation than the previous ones, as from the shelter of Embalse de Alcántara to the town of Grimaldo, we will ascend nearly four hundred meters in a progressive manner. This stage will be a breath of fresh air among Mediterranean forests and a path that is a bit more mountainous than the previous stages. It is worth noting that we will encounter the AVE construction works once again, but it will only be in the first part of the stage.

This stage is part of the Silver Route. Would you like to walk it with your accommodation already booked? These organised trips include it: Silver Way from Mérida to Salamanca.

A short stage, very complete in landscapes. You set off with fine views of the Alcántara reservoir and skirt the Garrote hill to the 14th-century bridge of San Benito, which leads you into Cañaveral, a good place to refuel. Then comes the most demanding part, the climb to the Alto de los Castaños, and a descent among cork oaks to the Grimaldo turn-off.
