A transition stage that gains height: 43 kilometres of gentle but constant climbing alongside the N-630, heading for Baños de Montemayor and its Roman baths. Then comes the Puerto de Béjar, some 200 metres of ascent in under three kilometres on restored Roman road, and the crossing from Extremadura into Castilla y León. You finish in Fuenterroble de Salvatierra, near a thousand metres: bring warm clothes.
