We have already reached the equator of the summer of this exceptional Holy Year of Mercy and we want to compile statistical data on all the pilgrims, find out what means they have used and which way to Santiago is the most used by all the pilgrims. We have obtained the statistics of the Camino de Santiago for the month of July for the last 6 years, looking at the last two Holy Years, the year 2010 and this exceptional year 2016.

Pilgrim Statistics by sex
The first statistical data is to know which is the representation by sex of all pilgrims. Thanks to these statistics we can realize that the gap between men and women is narrowing every year in this last year 2016: Men 50.57% and Women 49.43%. Whereas 5 years ago the differences were more abrupt: Men 55.66% and Women 44.34%.

Pilgrims statistics according to means
We want to show you the differences between the means chosen by the pilgrims, and as you can see almost 90% of all of them make the way on foot, some alone, and others in groups like the trips we organize to the Camino de Santiago that we make.

Statistics pilgrims on foot
Each year more and more pilgrims decide to make the journey on foot, the statistical data indicate a slight constant increase each year.
This year has been the best month of July surpassing by far that holy year of 2010 that was one of the best.
Statistics of pilgrims on bicycles
However, if we talk about the pilgrims who use the average bicycletacomo for their arrival in Santiago we can see that since 2011 there is a slight decrease in pilgrims by bicycle in the month of July.
The record of arrivals of pilgrims by bicycle was given in the previous year 2010 exceeding by far the figure of 1,000 pilgrims.
Statistics of pilgrims on horseback
In the graph we can see how the years 2013, 2014 and the Holy Year 2010 were those that had a greater number of pilgrims on horseback. In this year of mercy they have already surpassed last year’s pilgrims by just double what we can expect to reach a figure that exceeds 100 pilgrims on horseback, far from the record years.

Statistics of the different routes of the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela
In this last section we want to leave you the number of pilgrims who make use of the different routes of the Camino de Santiago.
The French way is the one that agglutinates more pilgrims and represents 61.06% of pilgrims that make the way of the last year. Previously it was also the one with the highest number of pilgrims, but in recent years, more roads are being known, so that difference is decreasing.
