Information
In this stage we leave Asturias to finally enter in Galicia. This is a very exciting stage, due to the change of Community, which announces that the end is near. We have two options for this stage from La Caridad to Ribadeo: the official route, which runs through Tol; and the variant along the coastal path, which takes us through the beautiful Tapia de Casariego.
We leave La Caridad towards the village of San Pelayo and then take the road to Ribadeo, passing through Valdepares. In Valdepares we have two options to continue: we can make a detour along the coastal path, and get to know Cabo Blanco, the Atalaya and Porcía beach; or we can continue straight on to the centre of Porcía. We recommend taking the coastal alternative.
After passing the village of Porcía, we will have to decide whether to continue the stage through Tapia de Casariego (coast) or through Tol (inland). The coastal stage takes us through the pretty villages of Salave, Tapia de Casariego, Villamil and Villadún. At every step we can enjoy the cliffy coastline of this stretch and its beautiful beaches. On the other hand, the inland stage takes us through the towns of Brul, Tol, Barres and Figueras, allowing us to get in touch once again with rural Asturias before entering Galicia through the town of Ribadeo.
To consider
There are pilgrims who choose to spend the night in Vegadeo instead of Ribadeo. If this is your case, after crossing the river Tol, you must take a detour to the left to continue to the centre of Vegadeo.
The Cathedrals Beach of Ribadeo is one of the most important tourist attractions in Galicia and is located 10 km off the Camino, but it will be worthwhile to go there and enjoy the impressive formations that water erosion has caused in the cliffs, so we recommend meditating. well the stage before leaving La Caridad. As it is a protected natural area, prior reservation is required.
