What to see and do in Fuenterroble de Salvatierra
The Via de la Plata Theme Park
The Vía de la Plata theme park is an open-air space that forms part of the Interpretation Centre of the Silver Route. It is located next to the Church of Santa María la Blanca, the main temple of the municipality and a point of great tourist interest. This Interpretation Centre provides relevant information to the visitor about the history and tradition of the Silver Route. Here it is possible to see some remains and the reconstruction of a section of a Roman road. A most interesting visit for pilgrims on this route.
The church of Santa María la Blanca
This is one of the most interesting buildings in the area. It is a Gothic construction from the 15th century, with a sturdy tower and an altarpiece whose elaboration is attributed to Churriguera. The church has recently recovered its Door of Forgiveness, which had been replaced in 1996 by a new door. This is an element that the churches on the Camino de Santiago have for pilgrims who could not reach Santiago for health reasons. Tradition says that when they cross the Puerta del Perdón they are free of the promise to make the pilgrimage to Santiago, it is as if they had reached their destination.
The Millenary Column
The fragmented milestone is located in a place of very thick vegetation, on a high pedestal of slate slabs and lime mortar. It can be seen from the road, although the stone blocks and the lush vegetation in the area make it difficult to see. The lower part of a granite milestone column with its corresponding base, whose dimensions are 71 centimetres in visible height, 57 centimetres in diameter and 190 centimetres in perimeter. In the upper part there is a rectangular hollow, measuring 21 x 24 centimetres. The surface is quite eroded so it is not possible to know if it is anepigraphic or if it does not preserve the remains of a possible inscription.
The hermitage of Santiago
This hermitage of Santiago is another interesting cultural visit when passing through Fuenterroble de Salvatierra. It was located next to the hill with the same name, next to the Calzada de la Plata, where there was a prehistoric sanctuary. Its origins seem to date back to the 12th century, the time of the repopulation of the area of Salvatierra, although it is also said that in the place where this sanctuary was located, there may have been an earlier sanctuary. The latter would make it originate from the 9th or 10th century.
Cristo del Socorro Church
We found another temple worth visiting in Fuenterroble de Salvatierra. This church is located in the village square, is of simple construction and regular dimensions, very well maintained. From the tradition of this temple are preserved the documentary records corresponding to the year 1700, according to which the stewards gave alms for the procession and the mass during the Feast of the Holy Christ, the amount of ten reales de vellón. A building of great tradition and heritage value that is well worth a visit.
Gastronomy
The gastronomy of the village of Fuenterroble is unique and of great quality, as it is starring the use of local products. The village is traditionally a place of wheat and barley cultivation and as for livestock you can find products that are derived from cows, pigs, sheep and goats.
