The Roman remains

A large part of the Roman vestiges of Aldeanueva del Camino have been lost with time and successive reconstructions, but this village still conserves that essence and several samples of great patrimonial interest. The main street of the village coincides with the original route of the Vía de Plata, and in fact, the old route merges and runs under the current floor of this street. In Aldeanueva del Camino you can also find the structures of 4 bridges from the Roman Empire, although they are not completely preserved, you can see the remains of these constructions.

The best known of them is the one located on the Garganta de Buitrera, although the different restorations and reconstructions have caused the loss of many of its original architectural elements. On the other hand, two ancient inscriptions carved on stone can be seen on the façades of two of the houses in the village.

This temple was designed in masonry, elaborated with wide buttresses and with a rectangular tower next to the chancel which can be accessed by means of external stairs. It is considered a temple of great importance in the whole peninsula, as it has unique characteristics. The roof of this nave is made of wood and is on three levels. The main chapel of the church has a Gothic vault as a cover, which in turn forms an eight-pointed star. An essential visit during your stay in this village, another of its majestic corners.

The Fresneda Cork Oak

The denomination of singular tree of Extremadura is granted by the General Direction of Environment to those trees that possess characteristics that make them especially unique. It is a way of recognizing the value of authentic natural monuments. This is the case of the Fresneda cork oak, an immense piece of approximately 500 years old and 20 metres high. It is one of the essential sights when passing through Aldeanueva del Camino, a gift of the landscape that no traveller should miss.
