Colombres
Information
Colombres is a small village belonging to the council of Ribadedeva. The entire village was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2013, and in 2015, it received the Exemplary Town of Asturias award. It is one of the most prominent towns in Asturias for its heritage of "Indiano" settlements.
A little history
The development of Colombres is closely linked to the contemporary era and the massive waves of emigration at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. These migratory flows toward the Americas allowed many to amass fortunes, which the returnees then invested in the town. These individuals who returned from overseas with wealth were known as Indianos.
What to see in Colombres
Emigration Museum
The museum, also known as the Archivo de Indianos, is located in the grand "Indiano" mansion called Quinta de Guadalupe. It houses a specialized library dedicated to immigration archives alongside the museum itself, which displays photographs, letters, and various artifacts related to the history of emigration.
La Franca Beach
Located in the town of La Franca, this beach is part of the protected natural landscapes of the Principality. It is included in the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast of Asturias due to its extraordinary environmental and geological value, characterized by its impressive karst formations.

Church of Santa María de la Asunción
This Neo-Baroque church was renovated at the end of the 19th century using funds provided by the "Indianos." It is an atypical temple whose architecture stands in sharp contrast to the more traditional churches found in the region during that period.

Houses of the Indianos
A designated route through the village allows visitors to explore the history and architecture of the various "Indiano" mansions. These houses represent the cultural and economic legacy of the emigrants who returned from the Americas.
