The church of Santa Maria de Gracia

This interesting religious building dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, although the most important reforms were carried out in the 18th century and its last restoration took place in 2002. It is of Renaissance style and with Baroque decorative touches, it has a single nave divided into four sections. The church also has some attached chapels and a particular bell tower located in the atrium. Inside the room an impressive 18th century Sevillian altarpiece stands out, as well as the sculptures of the Cristo del Crucero and the Inmaculada. It is one of the most important architectural examples in Almadén de la Plata, an essential place to visit.

The Sierra Norte Natural Park

From this location it is tempting to take a trip to the Sierra Norte Natural Park, declared a Geopark and inhabited since ancient times by various civilizations. The Cerro del Hierro, which has been declared a Natural Monument, is a perfect place for climbing and is the result of mineral extraction works in the distant past. It will be of great enjoyment to walk among chestnut and oak trees in this natural landscape, as well as to visit the Botanical Garden full of vegetation of various species. In the Natural Monument of Cascadas del Huesna you can find a postcard landscape of impression, although the enjoyment will be merely contemplative, since the year is prohibited in them.

The Medieval Castle

In Almadén de la Plata you can also visit this interesting construction from the 14th century, located on the remains of a Roman fort of the 1st century A.D. C. Nowadays there are still some remains of the original construction so in this situation you can find interesting architectural traces from different periods. Specifically, the castle itself belonged to the so-called Banda Gallega, which constituted in the Middle Ages the northern border of the Kingdom of Seville.

The old Town Hall and Clock Tower

This interesting building was once a hospital known as El Hospital de los Angeles and was transformed into a hermitage in the 17th century. As for the Clock Tower, it was an addition to the original construction that was erected in 1905, a neo-Mudejar style tower 27 meters high that carries a clock of great precision on both sides of it and a bell. This part in particular has become a symbol of Almadén de la Plata, so it is of great interest to visit it and learn a little more about the history of the place.

The fountain of Santiago

It is one of the oldest fountains in Almadén de la Plata and it is located in Olmo Street. It is built in white marble with three taps that pour into a pillar and its magnificent pure water comes from a spring located about 200 meters from the fountain itself, on the shady side of Mount Calvary. It was built in 1947 by local stonemasons while Marcelo Ortiz Guerra was the mayor of the town. It is crucial for the inhabitants of this village in times of drought and the hottest periods.

The Cerro del Calvario viewpoint

This viewpoint offers excellent views of the Cerro del Calvario and also provides privileged views of the meadows, hills and orchards of Almadén de la Plata. It is a most interesting visit to understand the landscape that surrounds the village, partly a natural area of great beauty and partly the view that leaves the livestock and agricultural work in the area.
