This is the oldest route of the Camino de Santiago, which still retains the essence of the first pilgrimages. A solitary and extremely demanding journey due to its steep slopes, but which pleasantly rewards pilgrims with an endless number of silent landscapes rooted in the deepest rural traditions. The Primitive Way joins the French Way in Melide, a village famous for its delicious octopus á feira. At this point you will notice a considerable increase in the number of walkers who will accompany you for the next three stages to Santiago de Compostela.  

Between vineyards, valleys and rivers, the Route of Father Sarmiento will make you discover O Salnés, "the most picturesque region you can dream of", as the Galician writer Emilia Pardo Bazán used to say. With your eyes set on the Rías de Pontevedra and Arousa, you will recreate the same route that Fray Martín Sarmiento took in 1745 to win the Jubilee. A path of 190 kilometers that runs along the beautiful Galician coast guiding your steps towards Santiago de Compostela.

The part of the Via de la Plata from Mérida to Salamanca is quite a challenge for pilgrims as it has long stages between towns. However, it is perhaps the most interesting stretch due to the amount of historical and cultural heritage that can be visited and that, together with the hospitality of its people and the beauty of its landscapes, forms a perfect setting for the bravest pilgrims.

On this trip you will cover the last 110 kilometres of the Vía de la Plata from Ourense, a stretch also known as the Sanabrés Way. You will begin your adventure in a city with a great importance in the Camino de Santiago, which since its beginnings has soothed the feet of the pilgrim with its thermal and mineral-medicinal waters. A city that invites you to lose yourself in the stone labyrinths of the old town, stroll along the banks of the river Minho and contemplate its seven bridges, symbols of the city. It is a long forgotten Way, little travelled and at the same time, surprising. You will discover one of the most important medieval monasteries in Galicia, the Monastery of Santa María de Oseira, located in a beautiful natural setting. The gastronomy also plays a fundamental role in this itinerary, being the jewel in the crown the famous cocido de Lalín.

This part of the Vía de la Plata is also known as the Sanabrés Way. From Puebla de Sanabria, it goes into Galicia through the mountains of Ourense until it reaches Santiago de Compostela. A route that crosses a succession of mountain passes, valleys, and small villages; environments that will make you discover the purest essence of the Galician countryside.

In this section of the Vía de la Plata you will travel 225 kilometres from Salamanca to Puebla de Sanabria. A trip that, although solitary, is of great interest as it gives you the chance to get to know small villages in the provinces of Salamanca and Zamora. A route that starts on the Vía de la Plata and goes into the Camino Sanabrés from Granja de Moreruela.

On this trip you will travel the first stretch of the Via de la Plata that separates two of the most beautiful cities in Spain: Seville and Merida. During 9 stages you will walk through the lands of Andalusia and Extremadura; the olive groves will be transformed into extensive landscapes of Iberian pastures, leaving in its path small villages where the hospitality of the people will be the best gift at the end of each stage.
