Information
We can consider the climbs and descents of the previous two stages as training for today's stage. The most characteristic of this stage are its three ascents: the first in Zarautz, the second in Zumaia and the third in Itziar, and from Itziar we start a beautiful descent to Deba, our stage finish. Thank goodness it's a short stage!
This stage is part of the Northern Way. Would you like to walk it with your accommodation already booked? These organised trips include it: Northern Way from San Sebastián to Bilbao and Northern Way from Irún to Bilbao.
You can leave Zarautz along the seafront promenade, with a strategic stop in Getaria, birthplace of Balenciaga and of the navigator Elcano. The route continues towards Zumaia, with its flysch coastline, and climbs towards the Santa Klara farmhouse along local roads and dirt tracks, some quite steep, to Deba, back by the sea.
