Information
The stage between Laredo and Noja immerses pilgrims in the true maritime and natural essence of the Northern Way. Leaving behind the great bay of Laredo and passing through the historic fishing town of Santoña, pilgrims will walk through protected marshlands, small rural villages, and peaceful coastal paths until reaching Noja, one of the best-known destinations on the Cantabrian coast. The Cantabrian Sea, beaches, and lush green landscapes constantly accompany this pleasant and varied journey, perfect for continuing to enjoy the wild beauty of northern Spain’s coastline.
We leave Laredo behind, passing its vast La Salvé Beach and heading toward Santoña, one of Cantabria’s most famous seaside towns. Many pilgrims choose to cross the bay by boat between Laredo and Santoña, especially during high season, avoiding a long inland detour while enjoying a beautiful ride across the bay.
Once in Santoña, we continue through this historic seafaring town, famous for its anchovies and canning tradition. From here, the route becomes quieter and more rural, alternating between secondary roads, paths through meadows, and green landscapes typical of Cantabria.
The Camino leads us toward Argoños and the natural environment of the Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel marshes, one of the most important protected ecosystems in northern Spain due to its ecological value and abundance of migratory birds.
Little by little we approach Noja, the end of the stage, a coastal town well known for tourism and famous for its large beaches, especially Ris Beach and Trengandín Beach.
Things to keep in mind
This is a relatively comfortable stage, although some paved sections and exposure to coastal winds can make it feel longer. During summer, it is advisable to start early, as some sections have very little shade.
If taking the boat crossing between Laredo and Santoña, it is recommended to check schedules and availability in advance. Noja is also quite lively during summer months, so we recommend booking accommodations ahead of time.
