Information

Today’s stage is really short, and we are grateful for it, because if we leave from Cernache, it will only take us a couple of hours to reach this end of the stage, and if you have never been to Coimbra before, today you will fall in love with it. The beautiful Coimbra, bathed by the waters of the Mondego River, is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Portugal. It is a city with a lot of atmosphere and full of life, which is worth stopping to visit. Today’s short stage gives us the perfect opportunity to spend a good part of the day getting to know the city.

Map

We head towards Coimbra, leaving Cernache by its main street, from where we will continue ascending towards the Pousada neighbourhood. From Pousada, we will continue following the signs on the main road, passing by the chapel and farm of São Pedro and the chapel of Palheira. After passing Palheira, we continue crossing a metal footbridge over the motorway to continue along Ladeira da Bicha street, from where we will reach a perfect viewpoint to take a break.

We continue now, passing by Cruz dos Morouços, crossing again a pass over the motorway and the remains of an old aqueduct. After our ascent to the districts of Santa Clara and Mesura, we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Coimbra. Just before crossing the Mondego river to enter Coimbra, we can make a stop to visit the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova.
