We head towards Coimbra, leaving Cernache by its main street, from where we will continue ascending towards the Pousada neighbourhood. From Pousada, we will continue following the signs on the main road, passing by the chapel and farm of São Pedro and the chapel of Palheira. After passing Palheira, we continue crossing a metal footbridge over the motorway to continue along Ladeira da Bicha street, from where we will reach a perfect viewpoint to take a break.
We continue now, passing by Cruz dos Morouços, crossing again a pass over the motorway and the remains of an old aqueduct. After our ascent to the districts of Santa Clara and Mesura, we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Coimbra. Just before crossing the Mondego river to enter Coimbra, we can make a stop to visit the
Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova.
Did you know that our city was the first capital of the Kingdom of Portugal, after its independence from the Kingdom of León? In addition, Coimbra has one of the oldest universities in Europe, as well as many other places to visit, so if we leave from Cernache early, we will have the whole day to see this wonderful town.
