Walk the whole of the North Way from Irún to Santiago de Compostela, with its 820 kilometers of 820 kilometers of separation and in just one morning is possible. A total of 1,250 CaixaBank employees and users of its Social Action programme did so on Monday 18 October, on the occasion of the Volunteer Day 2021 and as a tribute to the Xacobean Holy Year 2021 and its extension in 2022.
The initiative
The Volunteering and Social Action are fundamental assets in CaixaBank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Plan, and in 2020 they celebrated fifteen years of in 2020 they celebrated fifteen years working in this supportive and committed work for society.. This year the initiative opted to carry out the Northern Way in a single morning. As Juan Pedro Badiola, the company’s Northern Territorial Director, who participated in the first stage of the first stage from Irun, “The northern communities share many things, but one of the most special is undoubtedly the Camino de Santiago”.
“This route unites us in history, trajectory and affection”, he adds.
Divided into 62 groups of between 10 and 20 people, 1,000 CaixaBank employees in the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia in 62 stages, in one morning and at the same time, they completed the whole of the Northern Way from Irún to the Cathedral of Santiago. In addition, they were accompanied by 250 users of 25 social entities with which CaixaBank collaborates, and with whom they arrived around 14:00 hours at the Plaza del Obradoiro under the heavy rain of Santiago de Compostela.
Volunteering and Social Action
The intention of this pilgrimage is twofold: as the Territorial Director declares, “on the one hand, with a solidary character, and on the other, to give prominence to the Xacobeo deserves. give Xacobeo the prominence it deserves.”. Thus, as a gesture of solidarity, along the way they carried out waste collection and recycling actionsas part of its “R4 – challenge, collect, recycle and breathe” program, thus leaving a voluntary and clean footprint on this path that belongs to everyone.
With regard to Social Action, Badiola points out, in relation to the users of CaixaBank’s social project, that “we are long-standing partners. We helped them in their day to day life and they wanted to walk with us on this journey.. Their participation has made all the kilometres we have travelled even more special”.
Next roads?
It seems that CaixaBank wants more Caminoto coincide with CaixaBank Volunteers’ Day, next Saturday 23 October of this Holy Year 2021 they are organising a group outing the third and last stage of the Camino de Santiago in Gran Canaria. They will do the stage that goes from Cruz de Tejeda to the church of Santiago de los Caballeros in Gáldar, the end of the stage. Such a peculiar way.
Solidarity, social action and willingness to help others, very pilgrim values There are no limits at CaixaBank, and the bank wants to continue carrying out different activities in all parts of Spain as part of its own Volunteer Day, which will be held next Saturday in all the Autonomous Communities and which will also be used as an opportunity to celebrate the Xacobean Holy Year 2021.
