Alpriate Lisbon

Information about Alpriate

Alpriate is a district of the parish of Vialonga, belonging to the municipality of Vilafranca de Xira. It is located in the Natural Reserve of the Tejo estuary. This area is part of the metropolitan area of Lisbon, so pilgrims who make the starting point of the Portuguese Way from Lisbon, will have the impression that they have not left the city.

The history of the territory formed by the current neighbourhood of Alpriate dates back to the foundation and formation of the centre of Lisbon. Like the territory of the city, this area has been home and passage of prehistoric tribes of the Peninsula, Lusitanians, Romans, Arabs and Visigoths. Its current configuration and framework corresponds to the Contemporary Age and the growth of Lisbon’s urban space within its limits.
