What to see and do in La Mesa

La Mesa is a small village in the Asturian council of Grandas de Salime, set in the valley guarded by the Berducedo mountain range and crowned by the Buspol Peak, on the route of The Primitive Way. This charming village of stone houses and slate roofs offers pilgrims the most complete disconnection from the world, with the small Parish Church of Santa María sitting on a funerary mound several millennia old.

In this small hamlet, there are hardly any services: only a public hostel in the old school and a cafeteria with a small grocery store. Due to its altitude, temperatures in La Mesa remain very low, even during the summer months.

Parish Church of Santa María

This small church dominates La Mesa, sitting atop a burial mound several millennia old. It was built during the 17th and 18th centuries. Curiously, its apse is positioned with its back to the Camino.
