Stage 2. Carucedo – Barco de Valdeorras (28 km)

Information

The Winter Road takes us quickly into Galicia. Proof of this is that in this second stage of the itinerary in which we will leave behind Carucedo to finish the itinerary sleeping already in Galician lands, concretely in O Barco de Valdeorras.

O Barco de Valdeorras is the regional capital of Valdeorras, very famous for its wine production. This place has an important natural heritage spread between the Natural Park of Enciña da Lastra and the Trevinca Massif, an area with the highest altitudes in Galicia, with its main peak exceeding 2000 metres in height.

Today you pass through Las Médulas again, this time on foot, with that reddish landscape left by the Roman gold mines. You follow the Camino Real to Puente Domingo Flórez and then the course of the river Sil, which you cross as you enter Quereño. From there, the nicest route continues beside the river through Pumares, Sobradelo and Entoma to O Barco de Valdeorras, in the heart of wine country.
