Stage 1. Ferrol – Pontedeume (28.9 km)

Information

We start our English Way in a placid stage ending in Pontedeume, with a mostly urban route, with hardly any slopes and spectacular views of the Ferrol estuary. Its main difficulty is that it can be too long for many pilgrims. But it can be divided into two comfortable stages of 15 kilometers.

This stage is part of the The English Way. Would you like to walk it with your accommodation already booked? These organised trips include it: English Way from Ferrol.

The first stage from Ferrol is long but beautiful, almost always hugging the sea. You leave the Curuxeiras quay, pass by the Concatedral de San Xulián and skirt the ría de Ferrol along wooden walkways through the marshes. You cross Neda and Fene, shipyard country, and further on the idyllic pine forest and the A Magdalena beach await you, in Cabanas. The final steps cross the medieval bridge over the río Eume to Pontedeume.
