Stage 2. Sanxenxo – O Grove (19.5 km)

Information

A stage of contrasts in which we will leave the urban center of Sanxenxo to head towards the first natural coastal enclaves of the route, culminating in the fishing village of O Grove.

If we previously mentioned that Sanxenxo is the quintessential capital of Galician tourism, O Grove is undoubtedly the capital of seafood. In fact, this small coastal town hosts one of the most important gastronomic festivals in Galicia: the seafood festival; celebrated in the month of October. Its rich cuisine combined with its natural wealth will enchant you.

This stage is part of the Father Sarmiento Way. Would you like to walk it with your accommodation already booked? These organised trips include it: Route of Father Sarmiento.

Today the town beaches gradually give way to a wilder coast. From Sanxenxo you climb to Punta Vicaño, with good views back, and continue through Portonovo and Paxariñas to Punta Faxilda, with the Ons islands on the horizon. Then the chapel of A Lanzada appears on its rocky spur, and the huge sandy beach of A Lanzada, with its dunes, keeps you company all the way to O Grove.
