Those of us who live the Camino de Santiago are in luck, as in this Holy Year 2021Fairway returns, the meeting place for all those who work and enjoy the First European Cultural Itinerary.

After almost two years since the last edition, this IV Forum of the Camino de Santiago will be held from November 7 to 9, taking place at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Santiago de Compostela. A unique opportunity for a meeting between professionals and the general public, which with a forward-looking perspective, will serve to determine what kind of Camino and what type of Tourism we want to have.

The 2021 edition

Fairway 2021 will be structured into four main sections: the congress, the exhibition fair, a workshop, and a training space in the Fairway Academy. Sunday, the 7th, will be the open day for the general public, while Monday the 8th and Tuesday the 9th will be reserved for professionals, who can register here; we, of course, have already done so.

As a major novelty, it is worth noting that this year's Fairway is one of the first hybrid events, meaning it will have both in-person and online versions, thus facilitating participation for those who cannot attend. Furthermore, this online version will be available starting November 5.

A vast program with a unique objective

The program for this edition, which you can consult on its official website, will offer conferences, debate panels, a meeting place for companies, discussions, workshops, round tables, etc. At the stands, we will find companies, products, and services related to the Camino de Santiago, as well as the presence of the Autonomous Communities through which the various Jacobean routes pass.

On the other hand, professionals and the general public will be able to enjoy various recreational activities, such as the new route "I Camino" between the Plaza del Obradoiro and the Congress and Exhibition Palace, various "escape rooms", "mindfulness" workshops, catering service at the Gastroway, etc.

Of course, the ultimate goal of the fair is to be the main tourist showcase of the Camino de Santiago, as after previous editions, this fair is consolidating and generating increasing interest.

A sustainable future for the Camino de Santiago

With the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia, Xacobeo 2021-2022, the Diputación de A Coruña, and the City Council of Santiago de Compostela, the organization of this fair is managed by the event agencies Trevisani, Viloria, and Mr. Turismo. Ana Trevisani, the head of Trevisani, emphasizes that "Fairway is a kind of everyone with everyone", where professionals and the general public can come together. For his part, Manuel Oreiro from Viloria points out that "this year we dedicate the program to sustainability, and precisely what we want is for Fairway to serve as a turning point for us to see what Camino and what tourism we want to have".

"Galicia has a greater responsibility for the Camino than the other regions. We could be a global example of how we manage the route"

Regarding the management of the destination, Tono Mugico from Mr. Turismo points out that the future of the Camino de Santiago must have the mission of "attracting quality tourists with a tourism expenditure that is, if possible, more spaced out over time". Sustainability is the present and the future, and Mugico adds that "the Spanish State, along with intelligent tourist destinations, has launched a very ambitious program that speaks of governance, digitalization, sustainable transport, and making inclusive tourism policies to improve and offer higher quality services".
