Stages of French Way from Sarria in group

Day 1. Arrival in Sarria

The group will be summoned around eight o’clock in the evening for an informative meeting. During this session, the guides will provide details about the itinerary, address any concerns, and distribute pilgrim’s credentials, luggage transport labels, and other gifts.

After settling into your accommodation, take the opportunity to soak in the pilgrim atmosphere of the town. You can explore the cobbled streets of the old part of town or relax on the Malecón promenade, enjoying the riverside terraces. It’s a day to rest, prepare mentally, and anticipate the incredible experience ahead on the French Way from Sarria in a group.

Day 2. Sarria stage - Portomarín (22 km)

You will embark on your first day as pilgrims with a stage defined by the grandeur of its forests, rivers, and quaint rural villages nestled amidst pastures. The terrain will be comfortable, with few slopes to navigate, allowing you to discover landmarks such as the Church of Ferreiros and Barbadelo along the way. Numerous spots to refresh and rest will also dot your path. A few kilometers before reaching the stage’s end in Portomarín, you’ll catch sight of the Belesar reservoir in the distance, signaling the nearing conclusion of your journey.

Day 3. Portomarín stage - Palas de Rei (25 km)

In this stage, you will traverse 25 kilometers of both road and mountain terrain. After ascending some slopes, it’s worthwhile to take a brief detour to explore the Castromaior hillfort, a Celtic settlement that offers insights into Galicia’s ancient history. As you pass through several villages, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the monastery and church of Vilar de Donas, designated as a National Monument in 1931.

Upon reaching Palas de Rei, where all services are available, your only concern will be to rest and explore the village’s wonders.

Day 4. Palas de Rei stage - Arzúa (29 km)

This is the longest stage of the French Way within the Galician community. Twenty-nine kilometers separate you from your destination, so we recommend taking it easy and enjoying the surroundings, as it is also one of the most beautiful scenic stages of the route. Already in the province of A Coruña, dirt roads, lush forests, and medieval bridges will guide our way to Santiago de Compostela. For all pilgrims, a stop in Melide, capital of the Galician octopus, is a must. In any of its many pulperías, you can taste this delicacy of Galician gastronomy. After recovering your strength, the last kilometers will not involve much effort, and once you reach Arzúa, you will have the rest of the day to rest your body and mind.

Day 5. Arzúa stage - Pedrouzo (19 km)

Today you are in luck; your feet will hardly suffer as you will find a short and less complex stage than the previous ones. You will walk on flat and comfortable terrain, finding plenty of bars, shops, and places to rest. Santiago is getting closer and closer, and the pilgrim ritual of this stage is to go to bed early to be able to get up early and make the most of the day in Santiago de Compostela.

Day 6. Pedrouzo stage - Santiago de Compostela (19 km)

As this is a relatively short and easy stage, we recommend waking up early for the pilgrim’s mass and enjoying the day in Santiago de Compostela. Upon reaching Monte do Gozo, you’ll feel a tingling sensation as you spot the cathedral’s towers in the distance.

As you descend into the city, any blisters and fatigue will fade away, leading to the magical moment of your triumphal entry into the Plaza del Obradoiro.

You’ve made it to Santiago! Feel happy and proud to have completed your Camino de Santiago. Now, just pick up your Compostela certificate and explore the Galician capital with your travel companions.

Day 7. End of the trip

Congratulations! You have completed your French Way from Sarria in a group. This last day, you are in charge; you can go back home or enjoy one more day in Santiago. And how beautiful Compostela is!
