Copas de coctelería

Here is a list of bars and restaurants perfect for a beer or a drink, or for some tapas. If you would like a quieter and more formal dinner plan, we also recommend a few more specialized places.

Atlántico Rock & Coctel bar

El Atlántico is one of the most mythical bars in Santiago, which has managed to reconvert and reinvent itself over the years. They specialize in cocktails and drinks, and the place couldn’t be cooler. The atmosphere is always very pleasant, as well as its musical selection. In case you didn’t know, during the closings caused by the coronavirus, they have started a cocktail service at home.

Abastos 2.0

One of the most fashionable places for vermouth time. Located in the street of the market of supplies, it is perfect to taste plates elaborated with fresh products of the market, or simply to take some wines or vermús.

Bodegón Casas Chico

This site is one of the most surprising and current. Surprising because if you are from Santiago or have lived in or visited the city years ago, you probably still remember the old hardware store that was located there. The old Casas Chico hardware store was one of the oldest in the city. Well, it was decided to reconvert the hardware store into a bar-restaurant, respecting the old space. The result could not be better.

El Riquela is that typical bar that has undoubtedly made a name for itself in the Compostela nightlife scene. It is perfect for a snack, to have a few beers before dinner or a few drinks after dinner.

Pepe Payá

Beautiful premises located very close to the square and arch of Mazarelos. It is the classic site that you will find very set at lunch time or dinner. Perfect to enjoy a good Estrella Galicia wine cellar, accompanied by some delicious dishes.

Benboa Compostela

Compostela en calle

Another local of the old zone reconverted in restaurant with a very modern and “chic” decoration. More than just a drink, this place is designed for lunch or dinner.

Cafetería La Flor

Home of the Compostelan modernity. La Flor is a place frequented by bohemians and artists where you can even meet a famous actor. It is a very versatile place, perfect to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee accompanied by a good book, or to take a few beers snacking on some tapas or toasts.

Casa das Crechas

Casa das crechas

Another of the most mythical and emblematic places in Compostela. This is the home of the “folkies”, and it is precisely Casa das Crechas that is famous for its links with the music and the traditional cultural and folk panorama of Galicia. Under normal conditions, they offer live music every week and Wednesdays are foliada night. We hope that soon they will be able to offer us again their wonderful selection of live music on the first floor of the premises. In the meantime, we are delighted to return to enjoy their wide selection of drinks.

Modus Vivendi

It is also part of the “taverns with art” of Compostela. A renowned place that has been in operation for many years. This is without a doubt one of the mod places in Compostela. The good music and atmosphere characterize it.

Borriquita de Belem

Located next to the Modus Vivendi, it is another of Santiago’s classic bars. You can enjoy its interior at night, where sometimes there is live music, and during the day enjoy having a drink on its terrace. It is one of the best “jazz” atmospheres in the city.

Hotel Costa Vella

Hotel costa vella

The most characteristic and remarkable thing about the cafeteria of the Hotel Costa Vella is that one does not expect at all to find what one finds after entering. From the outside we cannot imagine the spectacular garden terrace that this place enjoys. It is perfect to enjoy a good breakfast or a coffee with dessert.

Embora Bar Cultural

Mythical bar in the old Compostela area. It is located next to the Faculty of Geography and History and stands out for being an intimate and secluded place in the center of the city. Perfect to enjoy some good cocktails. It stands out a lot for its vermouth sessions with concerts on the terrace, which we hope can be resumed when the health situation improves.

Restaurante Orixe

Restaurant in the old part of the city, with Galician cuisine between traditional and contemporary. Apart from its culinary proposals, it stands out for its modern aesthetics as an industrial hall.

Restaurante O Dezaseis

It is a classic of Compostela’s gastronomy that could not be missing from this list. Specialties in meat and fish, and a very good menu of the day at an affordable price. But be careful because it closes on Sundays.

Casa Felisa

Perfect for dinner or lunch rations to the center to share. Its strong point is its huge outdoor space in the back.

A Tafona

One of the city’s Michelin stars, run by chef Lucia Freitas. Avant-garde culinary proposals made with the most authentic and local products.

Bodeguilla de San Roque

Rations of traditional Galician food are abundant and at a good price. If you want to eat here you will have to call to reserve a table in advance, as it is usually busy.

Restaurante A Moa

Rua San Pedro

In San Pedro street. One of the most modern and fashionable places to eat in Compostela. It stands out for its decoration and atmosphere, and for its interior terrace.

Bar la Tita

The famous bar of free tortilla tapas. You can also have lunch or dinner based on rations and tapas of traditional dishes such as zorza, raxo or chipirones. It is the mythical place that belongs to those usual bars and restaurants that will never go out of fashion.

Well, dear friends, we could continue writing an endless list of bars and restaurants in Compostela that are worth going to, but we think that with this selection you have enough to discover different corners of the city and find a thousand more places. Enjoy the city with feeling!
