The Natural Park of Oyambre is a protected area within the autonomous community of Cantabria, at the crossing of the North Way between Comillas and Colombres which has an impressive ecological and scenic value. It is located in the popular Sanja-Nansa region and is made up of 5,758 hectares of land. Its ecosystem, so diverse and attractive, can be seen between the municipalities of San Vicente de la Barquera, Udías, Comillas, Val de San Vicente and Valdáliga.

During a tour of the area, declared a natural park in 1988, you will enjoy large cliffs, beaches and dunes, with those of Oyambre and El Merón being the most popular in summer. But the presence of two powerful estuaries such as San Vicente de la Barquera and La Baria make it a much more attractive place for tourists.

What to see and what to do in Oyambre Natural Park?

Oyambre Natural Park

First of all, you must visit the Interpretation Centre of the Oyambre Natural Park. In that place you will find activities that you can develop, depending on the time of the year.

It is located in the Punta de la Silla Lighthouse. It also has adequate facilities in which there will be photo exhibitions that will help to understand the ecological value of the park.

From the Interpretation Centre of the Oyambre Natural Park you can organise guided routes around the area to discover its beauty and the richness of its flora and fauna.

Los Cámbaros

Among the most popular routes is Los Cámbaros. It is a circular walk of low difficulty, with 7 kilometers of route, ideal for families with children that will take you along the eastern coast.

You will be privileged to have breathtaking views from the cliffs and explore places of great charm such as the village of Trasvía, Pontifical University and Comillas beach.

The guided walk will take you to Playa Oyambres and then to the village of Comillas, where its viewpoints are one of the main attractions.

Here you can also see must-see places such as the cemetery and the monument of the Marquis of Comillas.

Throughout the tour, you will surely not fail to appreciate the best of the landscape, adorned with a fauna rich in bird species such as gulls, pigeons, blackbirds, hawks and kites.

Viewpoint of Trasvia

It is one of the best suggestions because the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Their service and ambience are second to none and one of the reasons diners keep coming back. Try an exquisite mountain stew, rabas or fish. If you have a little space left, try a good cheese flan. It is located in the district of Trasvia.

Restaurant La Aldea Comillas

La Aldea Comillas Restaurant owes nothing to anyone. They cook from the heart to the delight of the diners. Friendly service and quality atmosphere. It also stands out for its abundant portions and good prices. Try the tuna taco with ajoblanco, the tuna steak or the anchovies. It is in La Aldea street, 5, Comillas.

Leeward

The food is delicious and the treatment, quite good. It is one of the most popular places to eat in the vicinity of the Oyambre Natural Park. The zamburiñas are delicious, but the rice with lobster and the tapas of mussels with pickled mussels are on another level. It is in Avenida Miramar, 16, San Vicente de la Barquera.

Where to sleep?

How to get there?

Getting there from Santander is easy. The 62-kilometre journey can be completed in 42 minutes by road. To make the trip much easier consult the map or turn on the GPS of your vehicle, if you are driving your own car.

The route starts from Travesía del Mercado, then take the path to the left just at Plaza de la Leña. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Paseo del General Dávila and then turn right onto Bajada de San Juan.

Take the second exit at Bajada de San Juan at the roundabout and then take the fifth exit at Avenida Constitución / S-20.
