El Soplao Cave is located in the Sierra de Arnero and the valley of the river Nansa, between the municipalities of Herrerías, Valdáliga and Rionansa. It was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century when mining began in search of lead and zinc.

The cave has become a real paradise and a geological wonder of 20 km. long. Its name is related to mining slang and means a breath of air.

This archaeological heritage is made up of upholstered surfaces of aragonites, stalagmites and stalactites that together form fantastic games of shadows and colours that make this cave so spectacular and unique. Visiting El Soplao Cave

For the more adventurous there is a plan to visit the place on the original ground. Each gallery has been named according to the shapes generated by the stalactites (pointed), stalagmites, columns, flags, pearls and eccentrics. This is how inside are popular rooms known as:

The viewpoint of Lacuerre. It is located in the western part and forms a reddish viewpoint that covers the entire roof.

The Jellyfish. Located on the left side where two other rooms meet and its formation is due to the fact that an underground river used to flow there.

The Sentinels. Named after the two giant white stalagmites that seem to guard the entrance to one of the galleries.

The Opera. Located at the end of the tour, it is a room full of huge stalactites and eccentrics, as well as small flags that form a kind of white mantle.

Getting to El Soplao Cave is quite easy, along the A-8 motorway. Just take exit 269 to go to Rábago, where you will find the turn-off to the cave. The rest of the way is very well signposted, so you won’t get lost at any time. During the journey, you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes that nature offers you from beginning to end. You will not cease to be amazed by the panoramic view of the place.
